Central Seminar & Grand Round — Every Monday

Decisions to make the Central Seminar & Grand Round more participatory, acceptable, and effective

Important: MBBS students will not attend the Grand Round.

Participation & Attendance

  • All teachers, consultants, resident physicians/surgeons, registrars, assistant registrars, lecturers, medical officers (RMO/IMO/EMO/HMO), postgraduate students, and doctors (including internees) must attend both the Seminar and the Grand Round.
  • Seminar is a part of the MBBS curriculum; all clinical students must attend and participate in presentations.
  • Seminar participation will count toward the clinical class percentage of the respective department.

Scheduling & Coordination

  • Each respective department will arrange the Seminar and Grand Round on the scheduled date and time.
  • If a department cannot follow the schedule, a written notice must be submitted to the Chairman, Medical Education Unit, at least 15 days prior to the scheduled date.
  • The department/unit chief will select the topic and send a copy to the Chairman, Seminar Committee, at least 7 days before presentation.
  • The department/unit chief will select the speaker, Grand Round facilitator, rapporteur, and 2–3 expert panel members from related subjects.
  • The presenting unit of the Grand Round will arrange to bring the patient to the auditorium during the presentation.

Session Conduct

  • The respective head of department/unit chief will chair the session.
  • Only the Chairman, Grand Round facilitator, and expert panel will remain on the dais.
  • The Chairman and rapporteurs must ensure the session starts and ends on time.
  • Unnecessary comments are discouraged; spontaneous, contributory comments are welcome.
  • Students’ participation in all seminar activities should be encouraged; include recent updates relevant for postgraduate students as well.

Communication & Records

  • The department/unit chief will widely circulate topic, date, and venue (notice, personal contact, etc.) at least 7 days before the scheduled date.
  • The respective head of department will send a ≤ 250-word summary after completion of each Seminar and Grand Round.
